A significant reduction has been reported in alcohol consumption in Sri Lanka in 2022 in comparison to 2021, the National Drug Prevention Operations Unit reported.

Vice President of the Unit Naleen Amarasinghe said nearly 215 million liters of alcohol had been consumed in 2021 in Sri Lanka.

Naleen Amarasinghe said however, people have only consumed 120 million liters of alcohol from January to July this year.

Amarasinghe expressed hope that the consumption of alcohol will be further reduced by a significant amount during International Temperance Day next year.

He made the observations when participating in events held in Kandy on Monday (03) to mark International Temperance Day 2022.
