ASPI reaches 9,000+ levels with Rs.6 bn+ turnover

The Colombo Bourse continued its upward momentum reaching back to 9,000+ levels amidst recording Rs.6 bn+ turnover due to local and foreign investor interest on heavyweight stocks with the positive sentiments surrounding. Thus, All – Share Price Index increased by 321.3 points (+3.7%) to close at 9,027.5 for the day whilst S&P SL20 Index gained

by 143.1 points (+4.9%) to close at 3,072.0. Lanka IOC, Hayleys, Richard Pieris, Melstarcorp and LOLC Holdings remained as the top positive contributors to the ASPI during the day. Further, the broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 6,399.9 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 4,491.3 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 209,918.1k

against the 12-month average daily volume of 215,618.5k. Transportation and Capital Goods mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.

The top turnover generators for yesterday were Lanka IOC Rs.1,433.2 mn (+19.2%), Expolanka Holdings Rs. 760.4 mn (+3.9%), Melstacorp Rs.517.9 mn (+10.3%), John Keells Holdings Rs. 358.0 mn (+3.7%) and Hayleys Rs.348.6 mn (+11.1%). Foreigners recorded a net outflow of Rs. 155.1 mn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 414.9 mn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs.570.1 mn. Top foreign buying counters MELS LKR. 12.7 mn, ASIY LKR. 12.0 mn, EXPO LKR. 6.1 mn, HBS LKR. 5.1 mn, CIC LKR. 4.8 mn and LWL LKR. 3.3 mn whilst top foreign selling counters were JKH LKR.

66.7 mn, DIAL LKR. 23.5 mn, SPEN LKR. 8.4 mn, HHL LKR. 8.2 mn, BPPL LKR. 4.4 mn and ASCO LKR. 2.6 mn. Further, off- board transactions were witnessed in John Keells Holdings (Rs.280.1 mn), Melstacorp (Rs.27.0 mn) and Kahawatte Plantations (Rs.22.0 mn) yesterday.

Additionally, Balangoda Plantations, Lankem Developments, Hapugastenne Plantations, Industrial Asphalts and Udapussellawa Plantations were the top price gainers yesterday whilst Nation Lanka Finance, Myland Developments, Radiant Gems, Colombo Fort Land and Marawila Resorts were the top price losers. Further, Browns Investments, LOLC Finance, Asia Siyaka, Softlogic Capital and Lanka IOC were amongst the most actively traded stocks yesterday.

Meanwhile, Dankotuwa Porcelain reported a net profit of Rs.293 mn (+482% YoY), Sampath bank reported a net profit of Rs.2.5 bn (+4.1% YoY), Access Engineering (+36.7% YoY) and Vallibel Finance reported a net profit of Rs.462.8 mn (-18.7% YoY) for the June ending quarter. Further, Distilleries announced a first interim dividend of Rs.0.50 for FY23.
