Six trade unions connected with Board of Investments (BOI) of Sri Lanka on Tuesday submitted a letter to the Presidential Secretariat requesting President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to appoint a new Chairman, a Director General and members to the Board after the old Board had resigned last week.

The trade unions affiliated with the political parties Podu Peramuna, Sri Lanka Freedom Party, United National Party, Samagi Jana Balawegaya, and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna had submitted this letter.

Sanjaya Mohottala, the previous Chairman had told BOI’s heads of departments and executive directors on Monday that he would not return to work, a BOI officer told the Daily News yesterday.

Meanwhile, the President’s Secretary had notified Mohottala and the members that the President had not accepted their individual resignation letters.

According to BOI trade union sources, the BOI’s Collective Trade Unions requested in writing that the President appoint a new Chairman, Director General, and members to the BOI.

According to reports, BOI Director General Pasan Wanigasekera told BOI heads of departments and section directors that he, too, would quit after passing over his responsibilities to a new Director General.
