Must read

The first Video Evidence Collection Centre to collect evidence from children providing testimony related to child abuse cases was opened at the Premises of Lama Piyasa in Colombo North Teaching Hospital by State Minister of Women and Child Development, Pre-School and Primary Education, School Infrastructure and Education Services Piyal Nishantha on Wednesday.

The Government is planning to set up such Video Evidence Collection Centres in all provinces in the country within a short period to collect evidence from children providing testimony related to child abuse cases.

This will be done with the aim of alleviating the stress and inconvenience that child witnesses have to face when giving evidence in Court, State Minister Services Piyal Nishantha said.

State Minister Piyal Nishantha stated that steps will be taken to set up nine such centers in the nine provinces of the country within a very short period.
