Country rakes US$ 7,600 mn export income upto July

Despite the economic downturn, Sri Lanka has managed to earn an export income of about 7,600 million US dollars in the first seven months of this year. Accordingly, in the first seven months of this year, an export income of US$ 7,604.12 million has been earned, which is an increase of 11.8 percent compared to the export income of US$ 6,803 million earned at the same time last year, according to the Sri Lanka Export Development Board.

According to the data released by the Sri Lanka Customs, Sri Lanka has managed to earn this income. In the month of July this year alone, the merchandise export income is US$ 1,128.7 million, which is a growth of 2.25 percent compared to the US$ 1,103.9 million earned in the month of July 2021.

However, considering the first seven months of this year, Sri Lanka has managed to achieve the highest income from the export of garments and textiles. It is US$ 3,517.44 million. It is a growth of 20.01 percent compared to last year. It has been possible to earn an income of US$ 694.90 million from the export of tea.

In addition, the Export Development Board of Sri Lanka claims that the income earned from the export of rubber-related products in the first seven months of this year is US$ 501.047 million, marking an income of more than 500 million US dollars.

The estimated value of services exports for the period January-July this year was US$ 1,146 million, which has increased by 5.39 percent over the corresponding period of 2021. Services exports estimated by the Export Development Board comprise of ICT/BPM, construction, financial services, transport and logistics services.
