COVID -19 booster shots for tourism and aviation industry workers

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunaga said the government has aimed to complete the third vaccine rollout for tourism and civil aviation staff before the end of this month.

He said Sri Lanka was on the top of a successful vaccination drive becoming one of the safest destinations for post-COVID travel.

The Minister was addressing the gathering at the meeting participated by the media, tour operators and travel agents in France yesterday. The meeting was held in Shangri-La hotel in France.

The meeting has been organized targeting to attract more French tourists to Sri Lanka during the upcoming winter season in Europe. Sri Lanka has reached an important milestone today with the successful vaccination drive. So far Sri Lanka has fully vaccinated 63 percent of its 22 million citizens.

The Minister further said the introduction of direct flight services between Colombo and Paris will assist with the recovery process of tourism in the country and we can expect more tourists from France in coming months due to the commencement of winter season in Europe.

Currently, Air France flies to Bandaranaike International Airport from Paris with three weekly direct flights and the number of flights will be increased in coming months.
