All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga and opener Kusal Mendis have been named as vice-captains of the National T-20 and National ODI teams for the forthcoming India series, which will commence on January 3.

The Selection Committee, headed by Pramodya Wickramasinghe, has selected the 20-member team for the Indian series, while Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe gave the approval yesterday.

Wanindu Hasaranga, the current ICC T20 number one bowler, for the first time, gets the additional responsibility of Vice-Captain of the T-20 team; opener Kusal Mendis, who is in top form, also gets the Vice-Captain post of the ODI team.

The selectors are expected to groom a future captain and this is a very good boost for youngsters Wanindu and Kusal. The Indian tour will start with three T20 matches followed by three ODIs.

Dasun Shanaka, once again, has been appointed Captain for both one-day and T20 teams, while debutant Nuwanindu Fernando, the top-order batsman, has received the chance to enter the ODI team. Avishka Fernando and Chamika Karunaratne and wicket-keeper Sadeera Samarawickrama have been called in as well.

The Sri Lanka team is ready to leave in the next 31 days, two days before the first T20 game which is scheduled to be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
