The process of digitalization is the backbone of Sri Lanka’s way forward, Youth and Sports Minister and Digital Technology and Enterprise Development State Minister Namal Rajapaksa said on Thursday.

“The impact of the CCOVID-19 pandemic has led the country to realize the importance of digital transformation as a catalyst for development,” Minister Namal Rajapaksa said.

The minister was speaking at the ceremonial launch of a trilingual mobile application called the “PLC Touch,” implemented by People’s Leasing and Finance, held at Shangri-La Hotel.

The People’s Leasing and Finance Company, one of the state-run Non-Banking Financial Intuitions (NBFIs), has introduced the PLC Touch to facilitate user convenience for QR services bill payments and transaction with one tap of the phone. It is the first of its kind in the country with an insurance feature, the company revealed.

PLC Touch application allows its users to get a new insurance policy in a matter of minutes without having to spend time on paperwork, and its ‘Call and Go’ system simplifies the legal process for obtaining claims related to auto insurance.

Minister encouraged other institutions and companies here to be innovative in their products and services using digital technology.“We cannot be too sure of our success until these technologies reach the rural areas and they too become a part of the process of digitalization,” he stated.

“We have to be ready to connect with the world even as we come out of the impact of the Covid 19 situation,” he said.

“The application introduced today is tri-lingual. I hope it will attract more people to use digital technology,” he said. The application, PLC Touch, enables a user to get a new insurance policy in a matter of minutes.

The ‘Call and Go’ system in it simplifies the legal process of obtaining claims related to auto insurance.

People’s Leasing and Finance company’s Information and Communication Technology Group Deputy General Manager Prabath Gunasena was present.
