Eleven actors and actresses among 39 actors who had come to Mihintale to shoot a teledrama have been diagnosed with COVID-19, Anuradhapura District Epidemiologist Dr. Thejana Somathilaka said.
After the PCR tests, nine members of the cast and two women in the Mihintale sacred area have tested positive for COVID-19 and they have been admitted to the Nochchiyagama and the Kebathigollewa Treatment Centres.
He said that those who tested negative for COVID will be sent to their homes for quarantine and the Health Divisions has taken steps to quarantine another group who are awaiting PCR test reports at a hotel in Ambatalagama where they are staying. All of them are residents of Colombo. The health Divisions has also taken steps to quarantine the hotel owner and several employees at the hotel.
The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading rapidly throughout the Anuradhapura District and many deaths at houses were reported, Dr. Thejana Somathilaka said.
The Anuradhapura District has reported 108 COVID cases on May 18 and this is the highest number of cases reported in the district so far. On May 19, about 40 have tested positive for COVID. Three deaths have been reported on the day.
