Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that it is the people’s responsibility to adhere to the concept, ‘making use of every single drop of water from the sky without letting it flows to the sea’.

He was taking part in distributing 35 drinking water bowsers at a cost of Rs. 490 million to the local governments in seven Provinces, 15 districts – North, East, North Central, North West, Central, Uva and South at the Sri Lanka Administrative Institute, Colombo recently.

These bowsers were distributed to selected Pradeshiya Sabhas in the districts of Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar, Kilinochchi, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara.

He distributed water bowsers to the selected Pradeshiya Sabhas of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Puttalam, Kandy, Matale, Badulla, Moneragala and Hambantota as well.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, who is also the Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister also said that the civilization is built on water.

“Therefore, we have to prioritise food production and agriculture and implement the programme to create self-sufficient villages island-wide.

This programme will provide water tankers for local governments in remote areas where it is difficult to get drinking water.

These water bowsers will also be useful to carry drinking water to the respective local government areas in emergency situations and natural disasters.

The bowsers equipped with modern technology are a resource worth more than 500 million Rupees. I request all local government representatives to maintain and protect those resources to serve the people.

I am aware of the water problem in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

I think that the efforts made today have helped provide solutions to the water problem of the people in these areas.”

Ministers, Parliamentarians, Prime Minister’s Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry Secretary, other officials and Pradeshiya Sabha Chairmen were present.
