Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dullas Alhapperuma said the Government had not taken any decision to impose a five percent tax on the income of the people drawing monthly salaries of more than Rs.100, 000 each.
The Minister told the weekly Cabinet meeting that although Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardane had made some remarks to that effect, the government had not even thought of such a step at this juncture. He said Mr. Gunawardane would have expressed it as his personal opinion.
“I don’t intend to embarrass him as he is my colleague. However, we, in the Cabinet, had not taken the matter even for a discussion,“he said
