Inquiry against Army officer kicking civilian

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has recommended the Army Commander to conduct a disciplinary inquiry and take appropriate action against the Lieutenant Colonel who is said to have kicked a civilian at the Yaggahapitiya filling station, Kurunegala.

This person was kicked at the filling station following an argument that occurred on July 03. The Army had also started an investigation into the incident.

The Commission said that it started investigations into this incident and the relevant officer and the Sri Lanka Army Legal Director were summoned to the commission on August 01 to record statements.

The Commission has also informed the Army Commander to complete the implementation of the recommendations and forward a report in this connection to the commission before September 16.
