The Mahanayaka of the Malwatta Chapter Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera refused to meet a group of Parliamentarians including Dullas Alahapperuma during their visit to Kandy yesterday.
The group of independent MPs had made a request to meet the Mahanayaka Thera after paying homage to the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy. Later the MPs visited the Anunayaka of the Malwatta Chapter Ven. Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thera and obtained blessings.
Due to the failure of the government of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to implement the set of proposals presented by the Chief Prelates of all three chapters, the Mahanayake of the Malwatta Chapter has decided not to meet any politician until further notice.
Only the newly elected President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardane were allowed to visit the Mahanayaka Thera after this decision was made.
The Parliamentarians also visited the Mahanayaka of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven.Warakagoda Sri Gnanaratana Thera and obtained blessings yesterday.
