Must read

A massive digitalization project to transform Sri Lankan television into the world’s most advanced technology will be launched in Colombo tomorrow (28).

There is an urgent need to launch the Digital Broadcasting Project, a major revolution in the transformation of the current television broadcasting system (Analogue) in Sri Lanka through outdated technology into the world’s most advanced technology.

Minister of Mass Media and Information Dullas Alahapperuma will be the Chief Guest at the launch of this digitalization project at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo.

The new project will be launched under a special financial assistance provided by the Government of Japan to Sri Lanka, which will bring immense privileges and benefits to Sri Lankan TV broadcasters, viewers and the general public as a whole.

Currently, each channel has to use individual frequency bands under the local broadcasting system. However, with the new digitization program, the capacity of the Frequency Spectrum in Sri Lanka will increase exponentially, increasing the capacity to a single frequency by eight times or even 800 percent. Due to this, in addition to the existing active television channels in the country, 200 more TV channels will be allowed to broadcast a number of new programmes.
