Mechanism needed to carry out follow ups on Parliament Committees Reports- State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna

A proper mechanism should be put in place to carry out follow ups on the reports submitted by Parliament Committees on Public Finance, Member of the Committee on Public Accounts State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna stressed.

State Minister Alagiyawanna pointed out that it is an important phase to ensure that the inquiries carried out by these Committees meet their objectives.

Following up on those Committee reports will also hold the Government bodies accountable on managing public finance.

Alagiyawanna made these observations yesterday (09) joining the Adjournment Debate held on three reports submitted by the Committee on Public Accounts.

“This House holds the responsibility for financial discipline and financial management. Thus, following up on the reports submitted by the Committee is essential. If you look at the history of Parliament, from 1994 to 2001, none of the State entities have been summoned to Parliament for inquiries. This is the record we have. Now we have been able to summon more than 200 State entities for inquiries and have submitted 11 reports. However, we need to summon all 800 State entities for inquiry. So we opted for an online system to monitor the progress and fund management of all the State entities,” Alagiyawanna added.
