The Railway Department will commence a luxury train service for the convenience of devotees planning to visit the Anuradhapura sacred city from Colombo on weekends. This luxury train travelling from Colombo Fort to Anuradhapura will start from Saturday (8) at 9.20 am.
The train will stop only at Gampaha, Veyangoda and Polgahawela stations only and it is scheduled to reach Anuradhapura around 1.00 pm.
Devotees travelling in that train will have the opportunity to pay homage to the Atamasthana (eight sacred places) in Anuradhapura on that day and can also join the ‘Kiripidu Pooja’ held in the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi premises next morning.
After that, the train, which will start its journey from Anuradhapura railway station to Colombo at 5.00 pm on Sunday (9), is scheduled to reach Colombo, Fort Railway Station before 10.00 pm that day.
This train will operate on above times on all weekends.
