New initiative to introduce e-procurement policy in Sri Lanka

National Council sub-committee on identifying short and medium-term programs related to National Policy took into discussion regarding the need for a speedy introduction of e-procurement policy in this country.

This was taken into discussion at the National Council Sub-Committee on Identifying Priorities in Formulating Short-, Medium- and Long- Term Policies to discuss formulation of national policies held recently (11) chaired by Hon. Namal Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament. Officials representing the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Technology and the Auditor General’s Department were also present at the Committee meeting held.

The chairman of the committee Hon. Namal Rajapaksa further pointed out the need to prepare a policy through Parliament for the need of utilizing e-technology in the procurement process for all government institutions in this country. Accordingly, by June 2023, discussions were held regarding the possibility of carrying out the necessary activities to introduce the e-procurement process for Cabinet Ministries and State Ministries and to introduce the e-procurement process for all government institutions in the country by 2025.

Members of Parliament Hon. Pavithradevi Wanniarachchi, Hon. Wajira Abeywardana and Hon. Sagara Kariyawasam, participated in this committee.
