Medical expert warned people to obtain the booster dose of the Covid vaccine, mask up at least indoors and get tested if anyone is symptomatic as world is experiencing one of the largest COVID waves of the pandemic fueled by the Omicron BA.5 sub-variant.
Director of the Department of Immunology & Molecular Medicine at Sri Jayewardenepura Dr. Chandima Jeewandara said that the Omicron BA.5 sub-variant is the most contagious and most immune-evasive coronavirus strain which has yet been identified.
He said in a twitter post that hospitalizations will likely keep going up in Sri Lanka also due to the current BA.5 wave.
“BA.5 has the same key L452R mutation that the Delta variant had. We all know what happens when delta was here with us,” he tweeted.
