No Aflatoxin found in Thriposha – Minister Keheliya Rambukwella

Refuting the allegation levelled by various groups claimed that Aflatoxin being found in ‘Thriposha’ that is distributed among mothers, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told Parliament yesterday that it was a blatant lie. He was responding to a question by Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Rohini Kumari Kavirathne in Parliament yesterday.

MP Kavirathne said news reports have claimed that the ‘Thriposha’ distributed among mothers contains the carcinogen called Aflatoxin and the PHI Union President Upul Rohana claimed that the measures have already been made to recollect the Thriposa already distributed.

The Minister said that the inquiries are still going on the allegation levelled by the PHI’s Union President mainly regarding the scientific facts behind his allegation and his response will inform to the parliament after completion of inquiry. The Minister told Parliament that legal action will be taken against those who made baseless statements and the Health Ministry Secretary has already been advised to take legal action against those involved in spreading this misinformation.

He said this is a very serious situation because they are attempting to cause panic in society by making allegations of this nature.
