NP Governor tours several Northern Islands

Northern Province Governor Jeewan Thiyagarajah and Navy Commander of the Northern Province Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera engaged in a tour of several islands including Karainagar in the North.

The Governor who toured Eluwathivu and Analthivu islands from Karainagar via the sea especially inquired into economic, social and health problems of people living on the islands of Delft, Palathivu, Kakathivu and Kachchathivu, instructed state officials who accompanied him on the tour to expedite measures to raise the people’s living standards.

Governor Jeewan Thiyagarajah also instructed the relevant officials to focus attention on the destruction of the sea bed and marine plants as a result of hunting sea water fish using Trawlers.

Fishermen who engage in deep sea fishing and security officers engaged in a discussion on this occasion regarding the problems they face. They said that the Sri Lanka Navy and the Coast Guard Force always use protective methods to prevent the invasion of Indian fishermen within the Northern Province.

The Governor issued instructions to improve the security of people living on islands and the areas where they live in while requesting state officials to make arrangements together with the assistance of the Navy to provide relief to residents of islands and Government employees, provide a hospital, to operate a medical vessel between islands, to renovate dilapidated jetties, to control the price of essential food items, to transport wholesale stocks of building materials and other equioment through the Cooperative Service and ensure a procedure that does not inconvenience the people.

Governor Thiyagarajah also made a request that work be carried out so that there is mutual understanding between people while protectin and safeguarding womens toghts.

The District Secretary, Divisional Secretary, Grama Niladharis and Government officials participated.
