Minister of State for Finance Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that paying the PAYE tax of employees by Government and Semi-Government institutions will be suspended. He said that the related Circular will be issued this week.
The Sate Minister said that the tax is imposed as a tax to be paid to the Government by people who get income beyond a certain limit and the incidents of payment of that tax by some state and semi-state institutions have been reported before. “It can be in the state, it can be semi-state, it can be in the private sector, if they earn more than a certain limit, they are subject to a PAYE tax,” he said.
