Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that the Port City Act is fully compliant with the Constitution of the country without any prejudice.
He said that the Attorney General had clearly stated this and that was why the relevant bill was included in the order book and prepared for debate in Parliament. He was speaking at a media briefing in Kandy yesterday (18).
He charged that the US Ambassador here was making contradictory statements on the project.
The Minister said at times the US Ambassador says that black money could be brought to the Port City for money laundering and at other times says that a number of Americans were ready to invest in the Port City.
The Minister also said the fact that 21 petitions filed for and against the Bill show that there is no impediment to challenging the Bill in the Supreme Court and parties are free to do so.
