Must read

The Registrar of the Malwathu Chapter and Chief Incumbent of Somawathie Rajamaha Viharaya Most Ven Pahamune Sumangala Thera yesterday said that the Mahanayaka Theras strongly reject the opportunistic and childish behaviour of some Buddhist monks by blocking roads and and disrupting the people’s life. The Thera said their conduct does not suit to the role of a Buddhist monk.

Speaking on behalf of the Karaka Sangha Sabha led by the Anunayaka Theras of the Malwatte chapter, the Thera said that they reject the false, hateful and narrow-minded accusations made by a monk named Ven.Thenne Gnanananda thera against the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters.

Anunayaka of the Malwatte Chaper Most Ven.Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thera and Most Ven Pahamune Sumangala Thera, representing the Karaka Sangha Sabha, emphasized this at a special news conference held at the Malwathu MahaVihara on Thursday.

Most Ven Pahamune Sumangala Thera analysed the facts in it and said: Leading Buddhist monks, who are in charge of the Buddha Sasana, have wisely worked for the good of the people of the country and for the perpetuation of the Sasana in every crisis and calamity that has arisen in the country.

The thera said that there are instances in the past where the Mahanayaka Theras have even rejected meeting politicians who had not worked for public welfare by preparing nationalpolicies for the development of the country.

There were many media reports published over the past period about the direct advice given by Mahanayake Theras, focusing on the public welfare and the development of the country without being attached to any political ideology. It is also meaningful to work on a national policy to

solve the economic crisis and restore social stability. Mahanayake Theras advised the state policymakers that the country’s economic policies should be formulated by independent committees under the regulation of an expert panel with a proper understanding of the depth of

the crisis and that the entire process should be subjected to constant audit.

In every instance of various natural disasters in the country, Mahanayaka Thera has acted with compassion for the well-being of the helpless people. The history of Buddha Sasana describes

how the Buddha advised the rulers of the state when economic, political and social crises arose during his time to resolve those crises.
