Ranil Wickremesinghe to address IOC 2021 in Abu Dhabi

Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will address the Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) 2021 which will be held in Abu Dhabi,United Arab Emirates on December 4 and 5.

Jayashankar and Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Minister Dr.V. Balakrishnan and Oman’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena said.

Abeywardena said the theme of the conference this time is Ecology, Economy and the COVID Pandemic.

“UNP Leader, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing this conference will be of

importance to the UNP as well as the people of this country, Abeywardena said.

Wickremesinghe is a member of the organizing committee and is the former chairman of the committee as well. Frequent burning of fossil fuels and the use of petroleum have increased the average annual rate of global warming. Increasing population growth, lifestyle changes, unrestricted use of limited natural resources, and increasing greenhouse gas emissions have all had a detrimental effect on maintaining global environmental balance.

Large-scale urbanization and the cultivation of certain crops have also had a major impact on global warming, he said.
