Ranjan’s release: Recommendations sent to President

Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said necessary recomendations have already been submitted to the President regarding the release of former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake.

Speaking at a media conference, the Minister stated that he had obtained relevant instructions from the Attorney General regarding the matter.

He also stated that the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution was presented to the Parliament of Sri Lanka yesterday. The minister further stated that all the basic qualities included in the 19th Amendment are included in the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution.

The Minister stated that this 22nd Amendment includes that it is essential to obtain approval of the Constitutional Council in the appointment of the Governor of the Central Bank.

“Since the President is responsible for the National Security of the country, the President can only hold the Ministry of Defense”, the Minister added.
