Sandya Ekneligoda files FR against PCoI recommendations

Sandya Ekneligoda, wife missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda has filed a Fundamental Rights petition in Supreme Court challenging the recommendations made by Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to probe incidents of political victimisation.

Filing this petition through counsel Upul Kumarapperuma and Lakshika Udugama, the petitioner is seeking an order to quash the findings and recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry to release Army Intelligence officers from journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda murder case.

In her petition, Ekneligoda had cited the Commissioners of Presidential Commission retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne, retired Court of Appeal Judge Chandrasiri Jayatilake and former IGP Chandra Fernando, Commission Secretary Pearl Weerasinghe, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Attorney General as respondents. Ekneligoda states that the final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to inquire into Political Victimization into Political Victimization was handed over to the President on December 8, 2020.
