Minister of Transport and Highways Bandula Gunawardana says that a special program will be prepared for the safety of the Ratmalana railway station.
Police investigation have revealed that an organized groups is working to steal government property by threatning and intimidating even the employees of the Railway Department. The Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Mount Lavinia district has conducted an investigation into the large-scale theft. Fraud and corruption taking place in this work station and has obtained support from other departments including the University of Moratuwa.
Minister Bandula Gunawardana, who was on an observation tour of this workplave recently, has been informed by the management and staff of the institution that even their homes are being harassed by thieves. Accordingly, the Minister today made an inspection visit to the Ratmalana railway station along with Senior Depity Inspector General of Police in charge of the Western Province, Deshabandu Tennakoon and other senior police officers.
Accordingly, the Cabinet was immidiately infromed and necessary measures were taken to strengthen the security of the railway workers and the workplace and to prepare and urgent program to protect the public property from theft, fraud, corruption and theats.
At the same time, the minister also instructed the police and the railway department to implement a new security plan.
