Special programmes to uplift education – State Minister Piyal Nishantha

The present Government is implementing special programmes to uplift the education, said Women and Child Development, Preschool and Primary Education, School Infrastructure and Education Services State Minister Piyal Nishantha de Silva.

The State Minister was speaking at the handing over ceremony of the newly constructed building to children of the Watawana Primary School in the Mahiyangana Divisional Secretariat, Badulla recently.

State Minister Piyal Nishantha De Silva said the Government always works with the best interests of the future generation of this country.

“All of us love children. This Government does all that it can do to improve the lives of the younger generation,” he said.

He said he will take prompt action to provide drinking water facilities for schools and transport facilities to the people in the Mahiyangana Divisional Secretariat are.

The State Minister said that under the present government his ministry has already initiated a great deal of work for the children of this country.

He thanked the Chairman of the Oba Wenuwen Api organisation for making the Government aware of the situation in this school.

Three new classrooms have been constructed for students of Grades 10 and 11 of the school at a cost of Rs. 3 million and the foundation stone was laid for the construction of a teachers’ quarters at a cost of Rs. 7 million.

The project is funded by the Oba Wenuwen Api organisation.

Further, the unveiling of the school bell and statue of Giant Bulatha who built the Sorabora Reservoir took place at the school premises.

The presentation of material aid to the school and school books to children donated by Oba Wenuwen Api organisation also took place.

State Minister of Rural and School Sports Infrastructure Improvement Thenuka Vidanagamage, Secretary of the State Ministry of Women and Child Development, Preschool and Primary Education, School Infrastructure and Education Services, Kumari Jayasekara, Chairman of the Oba Wenuwen Api organisation P. A. Ratnasiri, Chairman of the Rideemaliyadda Pradeshiya Sabha Nishantha Jayasundara and Government officials were present.
