Sri Lanka finish seventh at UAE Rugby Sevens

Must read

Sri Lanka painted a poor picture at the Asia Rugby Sevens Series third and final leg as they had to be content with seventh place at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Dubai yesterday.

After a disappointing opening day, the Sri Lankan Tuskers, eventually recorded their maiden victory of this two-day tournament by overcoming Malaysia 26-12 in the 7th/8th playoff final.

Earlier, Sri Lanka threw away a great opportunity of claiming a silverware when they lost to South Korea 17-26 in the Plate Championship semi-final.

The Sri Lankan Tuskers showed early promise and looked like they would at least make some amends for the earlier setbacks by building up a crucial 12-7 lead at the halfway mark.

However, their hopes were completely dashed as South Korea came back firing on all cylinders after the turnaround by touching down on three occasions which turned the game in their favour.

The Philippines went on to win the Plate Championship by defeating South Korea 24-19 in a thrilling encounter.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong clinched the Cup Championship when they defeated the UAE 21-7 in the final while Japan secured third place with a 33-21 win over China in the 3rd/4th playoff final.
