Tariffs on Mobile, Fixed Telephone, Broadband Plans and Value Added Services (Prepaid and Postpaid) will be increased by 20 percent, while tariffs on all Pay Television Services will be increased by 25 percent with effect from today, the telecommunication service providers said in a joint statement.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has approved the upward tariff revision. The statement said that they were compelled to increase tariff due to the continued escalation of operational costs resulting from the devaluation of the Sri Lankan Rupee.

In addition, Value Added Tax (VAT) will be increased from 12 per cent to 15 per cent on all Telecommunications and Pay TV services effective from today, as per the recently announced revisions to the Government’s tax policies.
