Tusker Gemunu of the Yala National Park has been injured due to gunshots, the Wildlife Department said.
The tusker has sustained injuries to his front leg and wildlife officers have begun treatment, the Department said. It is suspected that the animal has been injured due to a trap gun.
Wildlife and Forest Conservation Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed wildlife officers to expedite treatment to the injured animal.
