Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Tareq Md Ariful Islam called on Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena at the Speaker’s Residence, yesterday, the Parliament Media Division stated in a communiqué.
The two of them discussed several current issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Speaker extended his gratitude to the High Commissioner for Bangladesh’s continued support to Sri Lanka, the statement said.
The High Commissioner said that Bangladesh would assist Sri Lanka in uplifting the handloom industry and solving microfinance credit issues. He commended Sri Lanka’s contribution to Bangladesh’s economy by holding high-level positions in a number of sectors, especially in the garment industry.
The Speaker said that the establishment of the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Association for the 9th Parliament had been delayed due to the pandemic, and that relations between the two countries would be further strengthened thereafter.
