The Budget has heaped more burdens on the innocent people who are suffering due to the economic crisis, National People’s Power
(NPP) MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said in Parliament yesterday (17).
MP Amarasuriya made this observation joining the Second Reading debate on the Budget 2023 proposals.
“Budget 2023 has not understood either the economic crisis or the political crisis in the country. The Government has no consciousness as to what the people are asking from it. People have distanced themselves from the politicians. However, the Government is not sensitive to the people’s problems. This Budget was presented by a politician who has been continuously rejected by the people due to his insensitivity towards them. The ones who justify this budget proposal should keep in mind that people are disgusted by the reasons that led to a crisis like this. Rulers need to have a good analysis of the prevailing economic crisis. They should identify where things went wrong, what caused it and what should be done to resolve this crisis,” Dr. Amarasuriya noted.
