Call for impartial investigation into alleged ticket price scam

Must read

Kandy Municipal Council (KMC) authorities are reluctant to conduct an impartial investigation over the alleged scam on the price of tickets for seats reserved at the Queens Corridor during the Esala Perahera season, Municipal Council employees said.

A group of Councillors have decided to make a request to the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner to conduct an immediate investigation in this regard.

It is alleged that the tickets printed for the said purpose do not have a price mentioned on it and this allows various individuals to sell them for Perahera viewers at different prices enabling them to earn a huge profit.

However, Municipal Commissioner Ishan Wijayatilake said that this year the tickets were directly sold by the KMC itself due to the absence of lessees to lease out the Queens Corridor.

“As the MC is unable to go to doorsteps to sell the tickets, they were sold through tourist guides and hotels allowing them to keep a Commission,” he said. That is the reason for not mentioning the price on the ticket, he further said. However, the Municipal Councillors urged the KMC to conduct an investigation and reveal the truth behind this incident, calling it a scam.
