Child abusers should be severely punished – Sajith Premadasa

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa said child abuse cases were on the increase and in order to control them those found guilty in such cases should be severely punished under the existing laws. Premadasa was speaking at a ceremony to commemorate International Children’s Day which fell on October 1. The SJB leader presented a new passenger bus worth Rs. Five million to Hindu College, Bambalapitiya to mark the occasion.

The Opposition Leader said under the “Sakwala” educational programme initiated by the SJB a few months ago, over 40 needy schools islandwide have been donated buses.

He said the SJB has also presented needy schools with digital equipment including computers, smart boards and printers.

The Opposition Leader said children are the backbone of society and are the future leaders of our country. As such, they should be protected and child abuse should never be tolerated.

“Therefore, it is the duty of everybody to protect and look after and also provide children with a sound education,” he said.
