Dehiwala Zoo records highest one-day revenue on World Children’s Day

The Dehiwala National Zoological Gardens has recorded the highest income recorded in one day this year on World Children’s Day which was on October 1.

The total income earned by the National Zoological Gardens in Dehiwala on that day was Rs.5,080,377.The National Zoological Department informed the Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Mahinda Amaraweera on Tuesday (04) that all other zoos were able to earn the highest income ever recorded in a single day on World Children’s Day.

Accordingly, the Pinnawala Elephant Conservation Centre earned an income of Rs.947,000. The Pinnawala Zoo earned Rs 949,200 and the Ridiyagama Safari Park earned Rs 856,000.

The Director General of the National Zoological Department Tilak Premakanta said that despite the fact that the National Zoological Department has allowed children and 60-year-old adults to enter the zoos free of charge, this is the first time that such a high income has been earned.

The Minister advised the authorities to take steps to prepare creative programmes to attract more people to zoos on holidays and days of global significance.
