Denmark’s Eriksen to get heart starter implant after collapse on pitch

Must read

Christian Eriksen will be fitted with a heart-starter device (ICD) following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen said in a statement on Thursday.

“After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD (heart starter),” doctor Morten Boesen said. He added that such a device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.

Notably, Eriksen suffered a scary collapse on the pitch and received CPR before being stretched off the field. There was silence in the Parken Stadium that hosted close to 16,000 fans as the medical staff attended to Christian Eriksen who fell face-first on the pitch while he was near the touchline to receive a ball for a throw-in the 43rd minute of the Euro 2020 match.

Tears rolled down the faces of fans as Eriksen’s family, which was at the stadium, rushed to the pitch to check on the Inter Milan star.

Later on Tuesday, Eriksen took to Instagram and shared a picture of him from the hospital. In the picture, Eriksen showed a thumbs-up to his fans and thanked them for “sweet and amazing” messages from around the world.

Giving updates on his health, the Inter Milan footballer said that he was “feeling okay” and have to undergo some examinations at the hospital.

“Hello everyone. Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family. I’m fine – under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay. Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches. Play for all of Denmark Best,” he wrote alongside the picture.
