The National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka has scheduled a number of programmes to celebrate the 76th anniversary of Sri Lankan Cinema and the 51st anniversary of the National Film Corporation.
The main event will be held today at 3 pm at the National Film Corporation under the patronage of the Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena and National Film Corporation Chairman Deepal Chandraratne. At the event, the late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike who founded the State Film Corporation of Sri Lanka will be honoured. Meanwhile, a floral tribute will be paid to renowned Sri Lankan filmmaker and national icon Dr. Lester James Peries, and his wife late Dr.Sumithra Peries, the first female film director in Sri Lanka by veteran filmmaker and producer Chandran Rutnam at the event. The memorial lecture will be delivered by Colombo University’s Prof.Samantha Herath. Parallel to the main function the film ‘Sandeshaya’ will be screened at the Film Corporation cinema hall in Colombo 7.
