Leader of the House, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena stated in Parliament yesterday (22) that the Minister of Finance will present the Government’s Road Map as soon as he arrives in the country.

Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that Finance Minister Ali Sabry is currently in discussions with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank on possible relief measures to address the financial crisis facing the people and the livelihoods of the people of this country.

He said that the Finance Ministry had issued a notice in this regard on Thursday. “There are some appointments he has to fulfill and therefore, as soon as the Finance Minister returns he would make a statement in Parliament on a day that you would agree.

We are agreeable to that and all know the crisis,” he said, adding that he had explained the situation to the Opposition Leader.

He said this in response to questions raised by the Leader of the Opposition requesting for the Government’s Road Map to resolve the country’s crisis.

Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said, Minister Ali Sabry had received the assurance of support as per the discussions he had held to strengthen the economy of Sri Lanka.

He said that while the Finance Ministry had explained the outcome of his meetings in a statement on Thursday, there was no requirement to keep reading it out in Parliament.

He said that further discussions were scheduled for yesterday and the Finance Ministry would release the details of these discussions accordingly.

Therefore, he said that the Finance Minister would give a detailed briefing once he returns to the country and also the road map of the government.

He expressed regret at the demand by the Opposition Leader demanding a road map without proper planning and discussion.
