Fuel distribution normalised in three days – Ministry

The Power and Energy Ministry is confident that the fuel queues will end gradually due to the stock of fuel arriving in the country within the next three days.

Adequate stocks of diesel, super diesel, petrol 92 and 95 as well as crude oil is expected to arrive in the country within the next three days, a Ministry spokesman said.

He said the fuel queues that have been going on for some time are now gradually decreasing.

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera attended a meeting held at the Kolonnawa Oil Storage Headquarters recently to discuss future distribution plans.

In order to restore and expedite the fuel distribution process, a 24-hour operational centre comprising of affiliated parties such as the Sri Lanka Army, the Sri Lanka Air Force, the Police, the Railways Department and other stakeholders has been set up.The minister also monitored its progress. The Minister had a discussion with the representatives of the Petrol Station Owners’ Association and the Petrol Tank Bowser Transport Association recently.Accordingly, the steps required to increase efficiency including timely ordering, streamlining of the ordering process, night and morning alert of stock reports at filling stations, speeding up delivery and deploying more filling station staff were discussed.
