The Government is attempting to arrest Opposition Members for the statements they made which is a violation of freedom of speech, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara said in Parliament.
He said that this amounts to political victimization carried out by the Government. He added that MP Harin Fernando is to be arrested for what he said in Parliament.
He made this observation commencing the Adjournment Debate for a second day on the report prepared by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to probe incidents of Political Victimization under the former Good Governance Government between January 8, 2015 and November 26, 2019.
Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando assured that no one would be arrested for what they speak in the House. He added that however those MPs should have a backbone to say the same thing outside Parliament.
Ranjith Madduma Bandara said this Government was elected following the Easter Sunday Terror Attacks and hence the benefit of the attacks went in favour of the incumbent Government.
However, the Opposition Members continuously raised Points of Order on Harin Fernando’s statement over the Easter Sunday Terror Attacks and queried about the move by the CID to obtain a statement from him (Fernando) to which the Government members were responding.
