Kandy Mayor Kesara Senanayaka says that the main reason for flooding of Kandy City is illegal constructions.He said that steps will be taken to immediately remove all the buildings that have been constructed while blocking canals and other drainage systems and if this is not done, it will not be possible to save the city of Kandy from flooding in the future.
Senanayake was speaking at a discussion held at the Kandy District Secretariat yesterday (26) to discuss the Kandy disaster situation.
He also stated that the removal of unauthorised constructions will be carried out regardless of protests or pressures.
He emphasized that there are a number of unauthorised constructions in the city of Kandy and because of these, many drains have Been blocked.
