IMF could have helped country last year – Ranil Wickremesinghe

Sri Lanka could have received USD three or four billion if the government sought assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in early 2021, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

He stated this while participating in a political discussion with SLBC Chairman Hudson Samarasinghe yesterday.

Wickremesinghe pointed out that the IMF had supported the development projects implemented in the country since the government of late President Ranasinghe Premadasa.

The Mahaweli Development Programme, Trade Zone Project and also the Janasaviya programme were funded and supported by the IMF, he said.
