JSC must appoint Recorder Judges – Minister Ali Sabry

Must read

Recorder judges will be appointed for trial preparation purposes in order to avoid law’s delays, Justice Minister Ali Sabry PC told the House yesterday (9).

The Minister proposed that political authority should not be allowed to appoint the recorder judges, instead the power to appoint them should be vested with the Judicial Services Commission (JSC).

The Justice Minister made these observations during the debate on the Second Reading on the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill.

Minister Sabry also said that the Justice Ministry is planning to introduce a pre-trial method which would limit delays in law. He pointed out that the people would seek legal solutions to their problems if the said delays could be avoided. Sabry said there was one instance where a case on child abuse was given a ruling after 20 years from the incident and pointed out the seriousness of the matter.
