The United States has offered a $10-million reward for information leading to the “identification or location” of ISIS-K leader Sanaullah Ghafari, also known as Shahab al-Muhajir. The reward also extends to information on those responsible for the Kabul airport attack on August 26, 2021.

Sanaullah Ghafari was appointed as the leader of the ISIS-K in June 2020. ISIS-K is the Afghan offshoot of ISIS, which originated in Iraq and Syria.

“He is responsible for approving all ISIS-K operations throughout Afghanistan and arranging funding to conduct operations,” the State Department said in a statement.

Last year, Ghafari was designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the US Department of State on November 22.

Earlier, the US government had designated ISIS-K as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) on September 29, 2015, and on January 14, 2016, the Department of State designated it a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

KABUL AIRPORT ATTACK
As the US rushed to finish evacuation of their citizens from Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover of the nation, terrorists launched a suicide bombing against the Kabul airport on August 26, 2021.

As per the State Department, at least 185 people were killed in the attack, including 13 US service members supporting evacuation operations. More than 150 people, including 18 US service members, were wounded. ISIS-K claimed responsibility for the terror attack.
