The State Minister was addressing a media briefing at his Anuradhapura Office recently.

The State Minister said that the island-wide protests that demand the withdrawal of the ‘Carbonic fertilizer only policy’ could have been thwarted if various agencies in the field educated the farmers in this regard at the earliest stage of the protests.

“Even at this moment, many farmers are optimistic that an amicable solution could be found for this issue. The President, Prime Minister and the Agriculture Minister have intervened to supply 5,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer for the maize farmers in the Anuradhapura District although there is a ban of artificial Chemical fertilizer in the country. Therefore, the maize farmers who were about to abandon the maize cultivation in 125,000 acres now can carry out their work in the 2021/22 Maha season. The State Minister asked the farmers to give up the protests and start their work for the sake of the whole country.
