Wildlife officials said that a mountain leopard that was caught in a trap and had climbed a tree with the trap around its body at Vanaraja Estate, Hatton, had died despite efforts to rescue it.
They said the leopard had got stuck in the upper part of the tree. They made efforts to save the animal but it died.
Wildlife officials further said that this animal is a well-grown leopard, aged around three to four years. They said the matter will be reported to the Hatton Court and the body will be taken to the Randenigala Veterinary Hospital for autopsy.
