Lynching: Chief Prelate welcomes PM Khan’s prompt action

Chief Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven.Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera has sent a letter to the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan appreciating the action taken by the Prime Minister to ensure justice for Priyantha Kumara.

Diyawadana was lynched to death while working as a manager of garment factory in Pakistan.

“Pakistan and Sri Lanka have a longstanding relationship and Pakistan has always been supportive of Sri Lanka in the recent past when Sri Lanka has faced various situations in the international arena,”the letter said .

Excerpts from the letter:The tragic death of Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana, who worked in a garment factory in Pakistan, is a very unfortunate incident.

The whole world condemns the incident as an act of cruelty by an extremist group. Your government took steps to portray this heinous incident as a matter of shame to Pakistan. We are very pleased with the prompt action taken in relation to this incident.

“This clearly shows the intentions of your impartial leadership. With your immediate focus on taking legal action against offenders, you have been able to bring the offenders under the long arm of the law”.

“We are assured that justice will be done on behalf of the assassination of Priyantha Kumara and we hope that this incident will not lead to the slightest deterioration of the long-standing

bilateral relationship between our two countries.We hope you will bring the perpetrators to justice and create a safer environment in Pakistan for Sri Lankans and all foreigners.The people of Sri Lanka have placed their trust in you as a successful leader.

“Here we recall the leadership qualities and success you have shown in the field of cricket. We kindly request you to give required instructions to the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo to take necessary steps to ensure well-being of the wife and children of the late Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana.
