Major tourism promotion drive in 2022

The Tourism Ministry plans to declare 2022 as the “Visit Sri Lanka” Narabamu Sri Lanka year to woo more visitors despite the COVID-19 challenge.

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said a five year global communication drive has been planned for the tourism sector targeting a revenue of US$ 1 billion and the Cabinet has already approved the project. A special Secretariat will be set up to implement and supervise this programme and coordinate all relevant institutions contributing for this effort.

Under this programme, over a period of five years, a tourism promotional campaign unit for Social Media and Other Forms of Online and Digital Marketing’ will be set up, while a ‘Campaign Creation, Research Development and Management Unit’ will also be set up. Meanwhile, 25 local agencies for public relations (PR), content development, social media, and web boosting, for related activities over a period of five years will be set up while eight agencies for destination development will be set up.
