Chief Incumbent of Ruwanweli Mahaseya temple and the Chief Sanghanayake Thera of Nuwara Kalaviya Most Ven.Pallegama Hemarathana Nayake Thera assumed duties of the office as the 11th Atamasthanadhipathi yesterday at the sacred Jayasri Maha Bodhi premises.
The new Atamasthanadhipathi was escorted in a colourful procession by Maha Sangha of the Maha Vihara sector from Maha Seya premises to Sri Maha Bodhi where the prelate was most respectfully received by head of the Maha Vihara Karaka Sabha Dr.Janaka Bulankulama by offering a tray of jasmin.
Most Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera planted a sapling of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in the lower Ranweta premises to mark the occasion. Speaking on the occasion the Nayaka Thera said that no VIPs, politicians or dignitaries were officially invited to attend the occasion except for a limited number of intimate lay well wishers and members of the Maha Sangha.
The Thera said he will take all possible efforts to ensure the protection of historic, cultural and religious atmoshphere of the Atamasthanaya.
The Thera said that he will work for the improvement of infrastructure facilities for the devotees and Maha Sangha and the tourists within the Atmasthana premises.
